Lessons In Digital Photography

Many people buy their first digital camera but have absolutely no idea how to use it. There are many options available for learning how to master digital photography, such as, for example, the internet. The internet certainly has many sites available to help you understand your digital camera and find answers to any questions you might have. There are many books available on using a digital camera, taking photographs and editing them. Many people find they learn faster and it is far easier for them when they have one-on-one lessons instead of reading a guide. Digital photography lessons are the answer for these people.

Digital photography lessons are great for anyone that is interested in photography as a hobby, or even for people considering it as a profession. You learn important facts that allow you to take the best quality pictures possible. More people than ever are interested in digital photography, and with a few digital photography lessons they can become experienced at photography. For anyone that is passionate about photography and wants to learn how to take the best pictures possible, digital photography lessons are wonderful. Many community colleges and night schools offer lessons that are flexible and usually run once or twice a week. Even though digital photography lessons may cost a little more than purchasing a book or searching the internet, you have the opportunity to learn about in-depth digital photography. While some people will be naturally gifted at photography, most individuals will require some formal training and guidance. An instructor teaches you and offers guidance but also gives constructive criticism when necessary.

Digital photography lessons teach you everything there is to know about the camera and accessories. This will include how to maintain and care for the equipment. You will learn photography terms, equipment basics, photography applications and theory. The lessons teach you different tips and styles, such as composing and framing the subject. Other things you learn by taking digital photography lessons are:

* Proper lighting techniques – They teach you that this is one of the most important aspects of digital photography. Lighting has the ability to make a picture look wonderful or ruin the entire look
* Identifying special elements – Being able to capture a special feeling or even a look takes practice and skill. It also takes knowledge, so you understand and are able to identify these elements. Teachers show you how to do this and explain which elements make your pictures interesting and what distracts from them

Digital photography lessons are great for a beginner, wanting to take pictures for their own personal pleasure or for professional photographers that are always searching for new ideas and techniques.

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles On Photography is a 1977 collection of essays by Susan Sontag. It originally appeared as a series of essays in the New York Review of Books between 1973 and 1977. In the book, Sontag expresses her views on the history and presentday role of photography in capitalist societies as of the 1970s. Sontag discusses many examples of modern photography. Among these, she contrasts Diane Arbuss work with that of Depressionera documentary photography commissioned by the Farm Security Administration. She also explores the history of American photography in relation to the idealistic notions of America put forth by Walt Whitman and traces these ideas through to the increasingly cynical aesthetic notions of the 1970s, particularly in relation to Arbus and Andy Warhol. And James, already damaged by Oxford and looking for a group to belong to.

For a time they live in a charmed world of learning and parties and love affairs. But university is no grounding for adult life, and when, years later, tragedy strikes they are entirely unprepared.

Universal in its themes of ambition, desire and betrayal, this spellbinding novel reflects the truth that the lessons life teaches often come too late.

He worked at a service station to pay for books and college tuition, and flight lessons. While at the University of South Dakota, he joined the Sigma chapter of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. By 1940, armed with a pilot certificate and a degree in Business Administration, he enlisted in the Marine Reserves to join the Naval Aviation Cadet program in order to become a Naval Aviator. After being designated a Naval Aviator and commissioned as a second lieutenant, Foss served as an instructor at Pensacola, Florida and later attended the Navy School of Photography, at which time he was assigned to Marine Photographic Squadron 1 (VMO-1) which was stationed at Naval Air Station North Island in San Diego, California. Eager for combat, he qualified in Grumman F4F Wildcats while still assigned to VMO-1 and was eventually transferred to Marin… More:

Theirs is a world of mystery, a place apart. Where children dress like miniature adults, where they speak Pennsylvania Dutch before English (which they usually learn in first grade), where they are entrusted with fieldwork and kitchen duty before they leave elementary school, where they nearly always share three meals a day with their parents and siblings (except lunch during the school year). These are children who grow up without television, computers, or telephones. But they know their grandparents intimately; the boys can harness a horse and take their part in the twice-daily milking operation; the girls can quilt, bake bread from scratch, and look after their preschooler sisters and brothers. What is it like to be an Amish child? With unforgettable photographs, Jerry Irwin shows moments within the Amish community. Children overlooking the barnraising, “scholars” (as the Amish refer to their elementary-school-aged students) conferring with their teacher, Datt (Pennsylvania Dutch for “Dad”) leading a fishing expedition of youngsters, sisters hosing down the buggy, a family at the school picnic, a sister and brother pitching watermelons to Mamm (Pennsylvania Dutch for “Mom”). The photography is immediate, artistic, respectful. Phyllis Pellman Good provides interpretive text, covering such themes as “Working At Home and Working Away,” “Hope Chest Treasures,” “Ceremonial Moments,” “Belonging,” “Visiting,” and “Amish Children’s Lessons: Driving the Buggy and Lighting the Lamps.” Irwin is a freelance photographer who has specialized in Amish subjects. He has had six books published. His photographs have appeared in numerous magazines, including Sports Illustrated, National Geographic, Country Journal, National Geographic Traveler, Washington Post Magazine, Harrowsmith, and Geo. Good has authored many articles and books, among them 20 Most Asked Questions About the Amish and Mennonites

Charles Sheeler: Across Media

Charles Sheeler: Across Media

$24.74

Charles Sheeler (1883-1965) is recognized as one of the founders of American modernism and one of the master photographers of the twentieth century. His work is synonymous with precisionism, a crisp, clean, hard-edged style that reconciled cubist abstraction and the machine aesthetic of Marcel Duchamp with American subject matter. Trained in industrial drawing, decorative painting, and applied art at the School of Industrial Art in Philadelphia, Sheeler also attended the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, where he learned an impressionistic, painterly style. He later embraced European modernism and taught himself photography. Sheeler fully absorbed the lessons of each discipline and forged his own singular approach. This beautifully illustrated book, created to accompany a traveling exhibition of Sheeler’s work, features detailed analyses of the artist’s mediums and working methods. Focusing on the complex, often paradoxical, relationships among photography, film, drawing, printmaking, and painting that were central to Sheeler’s art, this pathbreaking book traces critical points in Sheeler’s trajectory, beginning with a small selection of Sheeler’s seminal photographs, circa 1917, of the interior of an eighteenth-century Quaker fieldstone house in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Sections are also devoted to the 1920 film Manhatta, made in collaboration with Paul Strand; a series of commercial photographs of the Ford Motor Company’s River Rogue factory (1927); the enigmatic painting The Artist Looks at Nature (1943) and its related works; and finally a group of mill subjects from the 1940s and 1950s that experiments with photomontage. Digital Landscape Photography: In the Footsteps of Ansel Adams and the Masters

$24.95

Ansel Adams (1902-1984) was a pioneer of landscape photography, whose imagery-especially his iconic views of the American National Parks–is widely published and instantly recognizable. While he is undoubtedly one of the best-loved and best-known visionaries of American art, photographers also recognize him as a pioneer of technique, a theoretician, and as one of the great teachers of the craft of photography. His zone system has been widely adapted, but Adams unique imagery also relied on his determination and application at every stage of the photographic process; he spent years in his darkroom, as well as out in the open air. For decades, this kind of attention to detail required the kind of equipment, time, and facilities that were out of the reach of most photographers–but now, in the digital age, technology has finally made his techniques accessible. This book will show you what can be learned from Adams working process, and how these lessons can be applied today. The craft of Adams photography is discussed, and the ZONE SYSTEM is related to the digital age. Sections on light, composition, mood, and the darkroom all show what can be achieved today using and understanding his thinking. Michael Frye’s own photography provides many stunning examples of the results that can be achieved and, as one of Adams’ natural successors in the field, he is well placed to analyze the inspirational shots which open each chapter.* Demystifies the art behind the iconic shots • Contains a number of breathtaking works by Ansel Adams and other landscape masters such as Edward Weston and Elliot Porter • Written by one of the most reputable fine landscape photographers, who (like Ansel Adams) uses Yosemite National Park most frequently as his subject • Breaks the zone systems (famous to Adams) down in a way that digital photographers can use

Equine Angels

Equine Angels

$24.95

Equine Angels is a celebration of the journey of horses and foals saved from slaughter. Accompanied by more than 130 stunning full-color photographs, it tells the surprising and moving stories of how these foals have changed the lives of the human families who adopt them—for the rescuers are often the ones rescued when opening their hearts to an unwanted foal. The foals’ story begins from birth with their majestic mares on the vast plains of Canada. The mares are kept pregnant because their urine will then contain estrogen, a vital ingredient for a hormone replacement therapy drug called “Premarin”. The Pregnant Mares’ Urine, PMU, is often collected in harsh conditions for the mares and when the foal is born it is frequently considered an innocent but disposable by-product of the process. What happens next to the foals, who might otherwise go to slaughter, is the heartwarming subject of this book. What happens to people along that rescue path, is the magical soul of this book. The photographs and stories feature ruggedly beautiful horses in their natural splendor that transform from once-wild creatures into loving and intelligent companions, bonding with their human families. Included are stories of successes great and small: foals growing up to be national competitors, therapy helpers, and members of families that are healed by the love of a horse.Uplifting, with gorgeous photography, Equine Angels will inspire, delight, and teach life lessons through the wisdom received when connecting with these noble equine souls. Enjoy the rescue journey and see how “rescues rescue us”!Inside the book you will find: Over 130 sumptuous colorphotos showing horses with a rare rugged beautyThe story of how these foals have changed the lives of the people who rescue them and shows how they bond, uplift, heal and enrich families who adopt themThe transformation of once-wild creatures into loving companions and

Exploring North American Landscapes: Visions and Lessons in Digital Photography

$22.5

Over the years, photographers have come to know one thing is certain in the landscape photography world: there are places in America that have become icons of the landscape. This book focuses on a few places that have become such a draw, almost as if the rocks and trees have demanded to be photographed. As a third generation landscape photographer, Marc Muench has been fortunate to be one photographer that has lived the experience, explored the regions, lugged the large cameras, waited for the light, and, in a few cases, photographed a unique location for the first time. Marc discusses how landscape photography is more than simply an exploration of the landscape, but is also an exploration of your equipment and, ultimately, of yourself. The question is asked over and over: what is it that makes your heart beat faster and your blood begin to rush, leading you to reach for your camera? Muench believes the answers to this question are buried in the many stories of what landscape photographers have been doing over the past fifty years. He writes about his stories, his father’s stories, and his grandfather’s stories; and he shares the images that have, in a way, become what people around the world think of when they imagine what the more dramatic America looks like.An entire section of this book is devoted to the technical aspects of landscape photography, including what equipment to use, techniques for working with environmental conditions, and easy to understand step-by-step lessons on image optimization using Photoshop and other tools.Muench’s stunning images will inspire anyone who picks up this book, and photographers from the amateur to the professional level will learn how they too can find, capture, and process their own amazing landscape images.Foreword by Katrin Eismann

Verene walks right into the lives of his folks, showing you how they are, without any embarrassment on either side. Their togetherness is taken for granted so openly that the viewer feels at each moment like one of them, a member of the clan. Verene’’s color [is] tender, warm and sensual, though stops well short of being glamorous . . . flooding them all with a strange, sweet romance. These pictures convey his bittersweet fondness for a smaller world in which he grew up but no longer shares, but which has lessons to teach him about the inroads of ageing, disability and other difficulties. People do what they can to help each other and themselves, all from ”leaking boats.” Meanwhile, the dark room and the night bring tidings of their isolation. Many viewers are familiar with visits back home in this mood, which Verene renders luminous and fatal. Max Kozloff, The Theater of the Face: Portrait Photography Since 1900
